The traveling president: 32 trips to 43 countries

BARACK Obama, the 44th President of the United States has so far made 32 international trips to 43 different countries as of February 2014, since his presidency began in 2009. According to a study by a watchdog group, Barack Obama has spent more time traveling internationally than any other modern president. Here is the list of the international countries President Obama visited:

• Ottawa, Canada- On February 19, 2009, President Obama met Governor General Michaëlle Jean and Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

• London, United Kingdom- President Obama Attended the G20 Economic Summit and met with Queen Elizabeth II and Prime Minister Gordon Brown in March 31- April 3, 2009.

• Strasbourg, France and Kehl, Baden-Baden, Germany- He attended the 21st NATO Summit in April 3- 4, 2009.

• Prague, Czech Republic- On April 4-5, 2009 he attended a European Union-United States summit. Delivered public speech on nuclear disarmament. Met with Czech President Václav Klaus.

• Ankara and Istanbul, Turkey- President Obama met President Abdullah Gül and Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. Delivered a speech to the Turkish Parliament in April 5-7, 2009.

• Baghdad, Iraq- President Obama met President Jalal Talabani and Prime Minister Nouri al-Maliki and also visite with U.S. troops in April 7-8, 2009.

• Mexico City, Mexico- On April 16- 17, 2009 he met Mexico’s President  Felipe Calderón.

• Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago- He attended the 5th Summit of the Americas in April 17-18, 2009.

• Riyadh, Saudi Arabia- On June 3-4, 2009, President Obama met King Abdullah.

• Cairo and Giza, Egypt- President Obama met with President Hosni Mubarak, toured the Giza Pyramids and delivered a speech directed towards the wider Muslim world atCairo University in June 4, 2009.

• Dresden, Buchenwald, and Landstuhl, Germany- On June 4-5, 2009, President Barack Obama met with Chancellor Angela Merkel, visited Buchenwald concentration camp and an U.S. military hospital.

• Paris and Caen, France- He met President Nicolas Sarkozy and attended 65th anniversary of D-Day celebrations in June 5-7, 2009.

• Moscow, Russia- On July 6-8, 2009, President Obama Met with President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and then delivered a commencement speech to the New Economic School.

• L’Aquila and Rome, Italy- On July 8- 10, 2009, He attended the 35th G8 summit and met with President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

• Vatican City, Vatican- President Obama met Pope Benedict XVI in July 10, 2009.

• Accra, Ghana- On July 10-11, 2009, He met with President John Atta Mills, delivered a speech to theGhanaian Parliament and toured a former departing point of the trans-Atlantic slave trade, the Cape Coast Castle.

• Guadalajara, Mexico- He attended annual North American Leaders’ Summit with President Felipe Calderón and Prime Minister Stephen Harper in August 9-10, 2009.

• Copenhagen, Denmark- October 2, 2009, President Obama Met with Queen Margrethe II and Prime Minister Lars Løkke Rasmussen. Attended the 13th Olympic Congress meeting to lobby for Chicago’s bid to host the 2016 Olympics.

• Tokyo, Japan- On November 13- 14, 2009, he met Emperor Akihito and Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

• Singapore, Singapore- He Attended the APEC 2009 meeting. Met with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. Met with leaders of ASEAN in November 14-15, 2009.

• Shanghai and Beijing, China- Met with Shanghai Party Secretary Yu Zhengsheng. Held a town hall meeting with Shanghai students. Met with President Hu Jintao, NPC Chairman Wu Bangguo and Premier Wen Jiabao.

Visited the Forbidden City and the Great Wall of China in November 15-18, 2009.

• Seoul and Pyeongtaek, South Korea- On November 18-19, 2009, President Obama Met with President Lee Myung-bak. Visited with U.S. troops atOsan Air Base in Pyeongtaek.

• Oslo, Norway- President Barack Obama accepted the Nobel Peace Prize in Decemebr 9- 11, 2009.

• Copenhagen, Denmark- He attended the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2009 December 17-19.

• Bagram and Kabul, Afghanistan- On March 27-28, 2010, He met with President Hamid Karzai and U.S. troops.

• Prague, Czech Republic- President Barack Obama signed the New START treaty with Russian President Dmitry Medvedev in April 8 of 2010.

• Toronto and Huntsville, Canada- He attended the 36th G8 summit and the G-20 Toronto summit in April 25-27, 2010.

• Mumbai and New Delhi, India- On November 6-9, 2010, President Barack Obama participated in the US-India Business Council and Entrepreneurship Summit in Mumbai. Held a town hall meeting with Mumbai students. Met with President Pratibha Patil and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Delivered a speech to theIndian Parliament. Visited Humayun’s Tomb and Raj Ghat.

• Jakarta, Indonesia- He met with President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono. Delivered a speech at the University of Indonesia. Visited Istiqlal Mosque, Jakarta in November 9-10, 2010.

• Seoul, South Korea- He attended the G-20 Seoul summit. Met with President Lee Myung-bak. Visited with U.S. troops at Yongsan Garrison in November 10-12,2010.

• Tokyo, Yokohama, Kamakura, Japan- On November 12-14, 2010, He attended the APEC 2010 meeting. Met with Prime Minister Naoto Kan. Visited the Kamakura Great Buddha statue.

• Lisbon,  Portugal- President Barack Obama attended the 22nd NATO summit and the U.S.-EU summit and met with President Aníbal Cavaco Silva and Prime Minister José Sócrates in November 19-20, 2010.

• Bagram, Afghanistan- On December 3, 2010, he Visited with U.S. troops at Bagram Air Base. Originally planned meeting with President Hamid Karzai in Kabul was canceled due to bad weather.

• Brasília and Rio de Janeiro, Brazil- President Obama met with President Dilma Rousseff. Visited the Cidade de Deus favela and the Christ the Redeemer statue in March 19-21, 2011.

• Santiago, Chile- He met President Sebastián Piñerain March 21-22, 2011.

• San Salvador, El Salvador- In March 22-23, 2011, President Obama met with President Mauricio Funes. Visited the San Salvador Cathedral.

• Dublin, Moneygall, Ireland- He had meetings with President Mary McAleese and TaoiseachEnda Kenny. Visited ancestral home in Moneygall, and addressed a large crowd in Dublin. Accompanied by the First Lady in May 23, 2011.

• London, United Kingdom- He had a State visit accompanied by the First Lady. She returned to the US from the UK when the President traveled on to France in May 23-26, 2011.

• Deauville, France- He Attended the 37th G8 summit in May 26-27, 2011.

• Warsaw, Poland- President Obama had meetings with President Bronisław Komorowski and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. Laid wreath at the Warsaw Ghetto Memorial and visited the memorial to the victims of the Smolensk plane crash in May 27-28, 2011.

• Cannes, France- President Obama attended the G-20 Cannes summit in November 3-4, 2011.

• Canberra, Darwin, Australia- On November 16-17, 2011, he met with Prime Minister Julia Gillard.

• Nusa Dua, Indonesia- President Obama Attended an ASEAN Summit and the Sixth East Asia Summit in November 17-19, 2011.

• Osan Air Base, Korean Demilitarized Zone, Seoul, South Korea- He met attended the 2012 Nuclear Security Summit. Met with Hu Jintao and Nursultan Nazarbayev and addressed US military personnel in March 25-27, 2012.

• Cartagena, Colombia- President Obama attended 6th Summit of the Americas in April 12-15, 2012.

• Bagram Air Base, Kabul, Afghanistan- President Obama went for the signing of strategic partnership agreement between Afghanistan and United States, spending time with U.S. troops at Bagram airfield and addressing the nation from there regarding the responsible end of the Afghanistan war in May 1-2, 2012.

• San José del Cabo and Los Cabos Corridor, Mexico- On June 17, 19, 2012, he Attended the G-20 Los Cabos summit.

• Bangkok, Thailand- The President visited the Wat Pho monastery, took part in a formal welcome ceremony at Thai Koo Fah, and met with King of Thailand Bhumibol Adulyadej and Thai PM Yingluck Shinawatra to discuss Thai–U.S. cooperation and mark 180 years of official relations in November 18-19, 2012.

• Yangon, Myanmar (Burma)- On November 19, 2012, President Obama became the first U.S. President to visit the country, where he toured Shwedagon Pagoda, delivered a speech on democracy at the University of Yangon[25] and met with President Thein Sein and MP Aung San Suu Kyi to discuss Myanmar–U.S. relations in light of the country’s democratic reforms.

• Phnom Penh, Cambodia- The President attended the 21st ASEAN Summit and the 7th East Asia Summit, where he met with Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao and Japanese PM Yoshihiko Noda, among others. Obama also hold a bilateral meeting with Cambodia’s Prime Minister Hun Sen and Obama became the first person holding the office to visit Cambodia in November 19-20, 2012.

• Tel Aviv,Jerusalem, Israel- He met with President Shimon Peres and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, visited the Shrine of the Book and Yad Vashem, and spoke to students at the International Convention Center in March 20-22, 2013.

• Ramallah,Bethlehem, West Bank- The President met President Mahmoud Abbas and visited the Church of the Nativity in March 21-22, 2013.

• Amman, Petra, Jordan- President Obama met King Abdullah and visited Petra in March 22-23, 2013.

• Mexico City, Mexico- He met with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto in May 2-3, 2013.

• San José, Costa Rica- The Presidenr met President Laura Chinchilla and other Central American leaders in May 3-4, 2013.

• Lough Erne, United Kingdom- He attended the 39th G8 summit in June 17-18, 2013.

• Berlin, Germany- The President met President Joachim Gauck and Chancellor Angela Merkel. Delivered a speech in front of the Brandenburg Gate in June 18-19, 2013.

• Dakar, Senegal- He met President Macky Sall. Visited Gorée Island in June 26-28, 2013.

• Johannesburg,Pretoria, Soweto,Cape Town, South Africa- The President met President Jacob Zuma and Chairwoman of the African Union Nkosazana Dlamini-Zuma. Visited Robben Island in June 28-July 1, 2013.

• Dar es Salaam, Tanzania- President Obama met President Jakaya Kikwete in July 1-2, 2013.

• Stockholm, Sweden- The President met King Carl XVI Gustaf and Prime Minister Fredrik Reinfeldt. Met with leaders of the Nordic countries. Attended an event honoring Raoul Wallenberg at the Great Synagogue in September 4-5, 2013.

• St. Petersburg, Russia- President Barack attended the G-20 St. Petersburg summit in September 5-6, 2013

• Johannesburg, South Africa- The President went to the Funeral of Nelson Mandela in December 7-10, 2013.

• Toluca, Mexico- The President attended annual North American Leaders’ Summit with President Enrique Peña Nieto and Prime Minister Stephen Harper in February 19, 2014.

• Amsterdam, Hague, Netherlands- President Barack Obama attended 2014 Nuclear Security Summit and 40th G7 summit; Met with Prime Minister Mark Rutte; President Xi Jinping of China; King Willem-Alexander of the Netherlands at the Royal Palace of Amsterdam; Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan of the United Arab Emirates; President Park Geun-hye of the Republic of Korea, and Prime Minister Shinzō Abe of Japan in March 24-25, 2014.
