Megrino posts rousing TKO victory in Tokyo

PROMISING World Boxing Council International flyweight champion Rey Megrino scored a 3rd round TKO victory over Kenji Kubo in a six round bantamweight bout at the famed Korakuen Hall in Tokyo.

Megrino, who was coming off a sensational 3rd round TKO victory over former WBC flyweight champion Pongsaklek Wonjongkam last November 1, proved too good for Kubo.

Megrino, who sent Kubo to the canvas where he lay flat on his back according to boxing writer Carlos Costa of Panama, improved his record to 19-20-3 with 17 knockouts. Kubo, who won his first fight against Indonesian veteran Nouldy Manakane last Nov. 9, dropped to 1-1.

It was the fourth consecutive knockout for Megrino who is handled by matchmaker Brico Santig and is ranked No. 20 by the WBC. In terms of fights won and lost his record is about average but his knockout ratio
